I’ve been an educator for many years. For much of that time I thought of myself as a teacher who happens to be interested in a lot of different things. Lately though, I’ve come to realize I’m interested in a lot of different things and I happen to be a teacher. One version is no better than the other, but the latter has given me much richer lenses for experiencing the world. My name is Marc Alter. I work as a teacher and instructional coach in a small public school district in Columbus, Ohio. I love being a teacher. I consider it a privilege to have opportunities to interact on a daily basis with the great minds of my students and colleagues. For me, teaching is more than a career, it’s a calling. It’s something I feel compelled to do. It gives me energy. With that said, this is not a blog for teachers. It’s for everyone. Being a teacher is about creating. It’s about building and nurturing relationships, asking questions, and seeking answers. It’s about learning from one another and applying what we learn to how we live. Does any of this sound familiar to aspects of your own life? My guess is, it does.

I’ve learned a lot from being a teacher and I feel it’s provided me with knowledge, experiences, and insights worth sharing. I’ve always enjoyed the adventure of heading in a direction and finding out where it takes me, even when there’s no specific destination in sight. This blog is going to be one of those adventures.
